Natalie Gurnett, M.S.
Master of Sport and Exercise Psychology - The University of Kentucky
My story begins as a gymnast in Upstate, New York. Like most high level gymnasts I would train 25 - 30 hours per week dreaming of competing as a Division 1 college athlete. During this journey, I endured several severe injuries leading to fear and a lack of confidence. I thought I needed to face these challenges alone and at times felt very isolated from my teammates. Throughout my work, I have realized that my personal experience with mental barriers is far too common amongst athletes, as mental performance training was not a resource that was readily available or widely understood. Overcoming these obstacles shaped who I am today and were instrumental in what drove me to pursue a Master's in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
In today's sports world many claim that a "quick fix" is all that is needed to improve mental performance .
I see it differently,
I believe your MIND is just as important as your body so
let's TRAIN it , HEAL it , and NURTURE it as such!
